Discord server template

Esports team Discord server template

An esports Discord serves two audiences with opposite needs: the roster, which needs private space for strategy, scheduling and review, and fans, who want results and a place to cheer. This layout keeps them firmly apart. The team side is built around the weekly loop of availability, scrims, matches and VOD review; the public side covers match results, tryouts and fan chat.

Who this template is for

  • Amateur and semi-pro teams in any competitive game
  • Esports orgs with one or more rosters
  • University and school esports clubs

A group of friends playing ranked together is better served by the gaming template. Tournament organisers running brackets for many teams need a different, event-focused structure.

Why it is laid out this way

Team
The whole category, text and voice, is private to the roster and coaching staff. Strategy and VODs never sit in a channel fans could be added to by mistake.
availability
A weekly availability post is the backbone of scheduling. Managers book scrims only once five players have confirmed.
Trial Room
Trialists get their own category instead of access to Team, so you can trial players without exposing strategy. Remove the Trialist role when the trial ends.
apply
A 6-hour slowmode keeps it to one application each. Recruitment is discussed privately in #recruitment.
match-chat
A 5-second slowmode keeps match-day chat fast but readable when traffic spikes.

Roles are listed from highest to lowest. Member and ping roles carry no extra permissions because @everyone already has Discord's defaults. Check any role in the permissions calculator.

Server rules

Posted to #rules when you build with Discrofy, or copy them.

  1. Represent the team well

No toxicity, trash talk aimed at players, slurs or harassment, here or in matches. You wear our name.

  2. Strategy stays private

Do not share team comms, VODs, strats or scrim results outside team channels. Leaks lead to removal from the roster.

  3. Be on time

Confirm scrims and matches in #availability. If you cannot make it, say so 24 hours ahead.

  4. No cheating or account sharing

Cheats, smurfing in ranked to boost, or letting someone else play your account is a permanent removal.

  5. Feedback is about play, not people

In VOD review, criticise decisions, not the person. Accept coaching calmly.

  6. No unofficial deals

Do not negotiate sponsorships, transfers or team business on behalf of the org without management.

  7. Fans: keep it positive

Cheer, do not flame players after losses. Criticism of the team should be respectful.

  8. Follow Discord and league rules

Follow the Discord Community Guidelines and the rules of every league and tournament we enter.

  2. Agree a weekly cycle: availability on Sunday, scrims midweek, VOD review after matches.
  3. Pin a scrim format in #scrim-schedule and an application format in #apply.
  4. Add Match Ping to Onboarding for fans.

Moderation and AutoMod

Discord AutoMod rules to turn on

  • Block slurs and the commonly flagged words filter in fan channels, especially #match-chat after losses.
  • Block invite links and scam phrases in public channels.
  • Block mention spam at 4 unique mentions; players get mass-pinged after big wins.
  • Add opponent team names as keyword alerts (not blocks) in #match-chat to catch harassment early.

How to moderate it

  • Audit the Team category permissions whenever a player leaves, and remove their roles the same day.
  • Keep moderators out of strategy channels; moderation does not need it.
  • Lock #match-chat with slowmode or timeouts if a loss attracts abuse towards players.
  • Record official match results promptly; it is the main reason fans visit.

Suggested bots

  • A scheduling bot: Collects availability and creates scrim events with reminders.
  • A stats bot for your game: Posts player ranks and match stats.

Build it in about a minute

Discrofy creates every category, channel, role and permission above in your server, then posts the rules. It only adds, so existing channels are kept, and you can undo the build from your dashboard. Your first build each month is free.

Frequently asked questions

Can fans see team strategy channels?+

No. The Team category is private to Owner, Manager, Coach, Player and Substitute. Channels inside inherit that, including voice.

How do I run several rosters?+

Duplicate the Team category and create a role per roster, for example "Valorant Player" and "Rocket League Player", each with access to its own category.

Why does the Coach role have voice permissions?+

Coaches run comms and reviews, so they can mute, move members and use priority speaker in voice. They do not need moderation powers in text.

Does this work for school esports clubs?+

Yes. Rename Manager to Club Lead and Owner to the staff sponsor, and keep the private team area for each squad.
