These rules apply to everyone, in every channel and in voice.
Be respectful
Treat every member with respect. Disagree with ideas, not people. If someone asks you to stop, stop.
No harassment
No bullying, targeted insults, threats, or encouraging others to pile on. This applies in DMs with people you met here too.
No hate speech or discrimination
No slurs, hateful symbols or attacks based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or nationality. "Just joking" is not an exception. This is an instant ban.
No NSFW content
No sexual, gory or shock content anywhere, including jokes and suggestive images. That includes profile pictures, names, statuses and links. Some members here are under 18.
No spam
No message flooding, excessive caps or emoji, copypastas, or mass mentions.
No advertising
Do not advertise other servers, channels, products or services. That includes DM advertising and invite links in your status or bio.
No scams or malicious links
No phishing, fake giveaways, "free Nitro" links, IP grabbers or account trading. Staff will never DM you asking for a password or code. Report suspicious DMs to a moderator.
No sharing personal information
Never share anyone’s personal information without consent, and be careful with your own: no addresses, schools, phone numbers or photos that identify where you live.
Keep channels on topic
Check the channel name and topic before posting and keep conversations where they belong. A moderator may move a discussion that drifts off topic.
Appropriate names and avatars
Usernames, nicknames, avatars and statuses must follow these rules and be mentionable. Do not impersonate staff or other members.
Voice chat etiquette
No ear-rape, soundboard spam or voice changers used to annoy people. Do not record or stream others without their permission.
Use spoiler tags
Wrap spoilers for new games, shows and films in ||spoiler tags|| and say what they are for, like "Ep. 5 spoilers: ||text||".
Follow staff instructions
Moderators have the final say, including on things these rules do not cover. If you disagree with a decision, raise it privately with a moderator or through a ticket, not in public chat.
Appeals
Appeal a warning, timeout or ban once, through a ticket or by messaging a moderator, with the date and what happened. Where possible, a different moderator reviews it.
Follow Discord’s rules
Follow the Discord Terms of Service and Community Guidelines (discord.com/guidelines). You must meet the minimum age to use Discord in your country.
How rules are enforced
- 1.Warning: Logged warning with the rule number.
- 2.Timeout: 1 hour.
- 3.Longer timeout: 1 to 7 days.
- 4.Ban: For repeated or serious issues. You can appeal through a ticket.

What makes server rules work
- Short and specific.“No advertising other servers, including in DMs” is enforceable; “be nice” on its own is not.
- Written for your audience. A study server needs an academic integrity rule; a gaming server needs one about cheats. The generator adds these by server type.
- Backed by a published ladder. Members accept consequences more readily when they were stated up front.
- Easy to find. Put them in a read-only #rules channel at the top of the server, and turn on Rules Screening if you have Community enabled.
Posting your rules
Copy the Discord message format into a read-only rules channel; long rule sets are split so each message stays under Discord's 2,000-character limit. Or let Discrofy post them for you in one step. If you are setting up a whole server, the server templates include rules written for each kind of community.
Frequently asked questions
How many rules should a Discord server have?+
Usually 8 to 15. Fewer rules get read; more rules tend to repeat each other. The generator keeps to at most 20, which is also the most Discrofy will post for you.
Why does the age setting matter?+
If members can be under 18, rules about adult content, personal information and DMs need to be stricter. Discord requires every user to be at least 13, or older in some countries.
What is an enforcement ladder?+
The steps moderators take when a rule is broken, such as warning, timeout, then ban. Publishing it makes moderation consistent and makes bans easier to explain. Some offences, like hate speech or scams, skip straight to a ban.
Can I use these rules for Rules Screening?+
Yes. The Rules Screening format shortens each rule to Discord’s 300-character limit and keeps the first 16, which is the most Discord allows.
Are these rules enough to keep my server safe?+
Rules set expectations; enforcement keeps people safe. Pair them with Discord AutoMod, a verification level that fits your audience, and moderators who follow the ladder.
