Discord server template

Art Discord server template

Artists join a server for three reasons: to show their work, to get better, and to find paid work. When those are mixed in one channel, finished pieces get buried under WIPs, critique lands on people who did not ask for it, and commission posts look like spam. This template gives each its own place, makes critique opt-in, puts commissions behind a simple format, and adds a clear policy on AI images, which is now the most common source of arguments in art communities.

Who this template is for

  • Artist communities and drawing groups
  • An artist’s own server for followers and commission clients
  • Art challenge, DTIYS and study groups

Fan communities where art is one activity among many should use the anime or community template. A professional studio with clients is closer to the business template.

Why it is laid out this way

Showcase
Separate channels by medium with a 5-minute slowmode keep finished work visible. WIPs live in Learn so the showcase is not buried.
critique
Critique is opt-in: only work posted here gets feedback, and the Critique Welcome role tells others you are open to it elsewhere.
commissions-open
Discord caps slowmode at 6 hours, so the weekly limit lives in the rules and the pinned format; staff remove repeat posts.
ai-art
A labelled channel settles the AI argument with a policy instead of a fight: AI images are allowed, but never mixed with hand-made showcases.
Draw Together
Drawing on stream or just with company is the main reason art servers stay active between challenges.

Roles are listed from highest to lowest. Member and ping roles carry no extra permissions because @everyone already has Discord's defaults. Check any role in the permissions calculator.

Server rules

Posted to #rules when you build with Discrofy, or copy them.

  1. Post your own work

Share art you made. Reposting someone else’s work, tracing without credit or passing off AI images as hand-drawn is removed.

  2. Label AI-generated images

AI-assisted or AI-generated images go only in #ai-art and must say which tool was used. Do not feed members’ art into AI tools without permission.

  3. Critique the work, kindly

Only critique pieces posted in #critique. Say what works, then what to try. No unsolicited critique anywhere else.

  4. Commissions are at your own risk

Commission posts follow the pinned format in #commissions-open. Staff do not handle payment disputes. Report scams in #support.

  5. Keep it SFW

No NSFW art anywhere in the server, including sketches and WIPs. Gore and body horror need a spoiler tag and a content warning.

  6. No art theft or harassment

Do not save members’ work to repost or sell. Accusations of theft go to staff privately, not public call-outs.

  7. Self-promotion in the right place

Links to your socials, shop or Patreon go in #self-promo, once a day. Server invites need staff approval.

  8. Follow Discord’s rules

Follow the Discord Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, including the minimum age in your country.

Welcome message and onboarding

**Welcome to The Art Room, {user}!** 🎨

1. Read #rules, including the AI art policy.
2. Pick your roles in #roles.
3. Show us something in #works-in-progress or a showcase channel.
4. Want feedback? Post in #critique and say what kind.
  1. Pin a commission format in #commissions-open: examples, prices, turnaround, usage rights and how to contact you.
  2. Pin a request format in #commission-requests: budget, deadline, style and where the art will be used.
  3. Post the first challenge theme before you invite people so the server has something to do on day one.
  4. Add Critique Welcome, Open for Commissions and Challenge Ping to Onboarding.

Moderation and AutoMod

Discord AutoMod rules to turn on

  • Block invite links outside #self-promo to stop server advertising.
  • Block scam phrases common in art servers ("art promotion service", "I want to buy your NFT", "commission me on").
  • Block mention spam at 5 unique mentions.
  • Turn on the commonly flagged words filter in public channels.

How to moderate it

  • Handle theft reports privately with evidence; public call-outs often target the wrong person.
  • Remove commission posts that skip the format rather than warning each time.
  • Watch for fake "art promotion" DMs: warn members in #announcements when a wave starts.
  • Keep critique kind: delete harsh unsolicited feedback and remind the author of the rule.

Suggested bots

  • Discrofy: Builds this layout and manages AutoMod and moderation from a dashboard.
  • A starboard bot: Reposts popular pieces to a hall of fame channel.
  • A ticket bot: Private tickets for commission disputes once the server is busy.

Build it in about a minute

Discrofy creates every category, channel, role and permission above in your server, then posts the rules. It only adds, so existing channels are kept, and you can undo the build from your dashboard. Your first build each month is free.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop commission spam in an art server?+

Give commissions their own channel with a pinned format and a posting limit, add a self-assigned Open for Commissions role so clients can find artists without ads, and remove posts that ignore the format.

Should an art server allow AI art?+

That is your decision, but make it a written rule. This template allows it in a separate, labelled channel and bans passing it off as hand-made. If you ban it entirely, delete the #ai-art channel and change the rule.

How do I protect members from art scams?+

Warn members about fake promotion and commission offers, recommend turning off DMs from server members, block common scam phrases with AutoMod and keep a #support channel for reports.

Can I use this for my own art server?+

Yes. For a personal server, rename it, remove the commission request channel if you only take your own commissions, and keep critique and challenges to build a community around your work.
