Discord server template
Study Discord server template
Study servers succeed when they make it easy to do two things: get unstuck on a question and sit down to work. This template separates asking for help (subject channels with slowmode) from focusing (voice rooms where microphones stay off), and adds a daily check-in channel because public goals are what keep people coming back. It suits a class group of 20 or an exam-prep community of thousands.
Free. Adds channels and roles, deletes nothing.

Who this template is for
- University course or class group servers
- Exam prep communities (SAT, A-levels, MCAT, bar exam and similar)
- Study-with-me and accountability servers
For a paid course with customers, the business template has support and announcement flows that fit better. A small friend group revising together needs only a couple of channels.

Every channel, its purpose and who can post. Read-only and private channels are set up with the right permission overwrites, so you do not have to configure them by hand.

Why it is laid out this way
- Subject Help
- One channel per subject keeps questions findable and lets tutors follow only what they know. A 30-second slowmode stops people posting a question in five channels at once.
- daily-goals
- A one-hour slowmode effectively means one goals post per session. Members edit their message to tick things off, which keeps the channel readable.
- Focus Rooms
- Silent rooms are the main reason people join study servers. Keep at least one room where talking is allowed so the silent ones stay silent.
- study-resources
- Read-only and curated by tutors, so it stays a useful list rather than every link anyone ever found. Suggestions go to #resource-requests.
- Off Topic
- Breaks are part of studying. Giving off-topic chat its own category keeps subject channels on topic.
Roles and permissions
Roles are listed from highest to lowest. Member and ping roles carry no extra permissions because @everyone already has Discord's defaults. Check any role in the permissions calculator.
| Role | What it can do |
|---|---|
| OwnerShown separately | Runs the server. Full management without Administrator. Key permissions: Manage Server, Manage Roles, Manage Channels, Manage Webhooks, Manage Expressions, View Audit Log, Ban Members, Kick Members, Timeout Members, Manage Messages, Manage Threads and Posts, Manage Nicknames, Manage Events, Mention @everyone, @here and All Roles, Mute Members, Deafen Members, Move Members |

| Study StreakShown separately | Reward for members who post daily goals for a week or more. Visible in the member list as a motivation. |
| High School | Level role so helpers pitch answers right. |
| University | Level role for university students. |
| Exam Prep | For members preparing for a specific exam. |
| Session Ping | Opt-in ping for group study sessions. |
Server rules
Posted to #rules when you build with Discrofy, or copy them.
Respect everyone
Be patient with questions at every level. No mocking, harassment, hate speech or discrimination.
No cheating
Do not share live exam answers, ask others to do graded work for you, or post leaked papers. Helping someone understand is fine; doing it for them is not.
Ask good questions
Use the subject channel, say what you have tried, and post the question as text or a clear photo. Do not DM people for help unasked.
Quiet in focus rooms
Focus voice channels are camera or screen share only, with microphones muted. Use the Chat Study room to talk.
No paid services or ads
No essay-writing services, paid tutoring ads, referral links or selling notes without staff approval.
Share responsibly
Only share notes and resources you are allowed to share. No pirated textbooks.
Keep it SFW
No NSFW content, names or avatars. Members include school students.
Follow Discord’s rules
Follow the Discord Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, including the minimum age in your country.
Want a different tone or stricter rules? Use the Discord rules generator.
Welcome message and onboarding
**Welcome to Study Hall, {user}!** 📚
1. Read #rules (especially the cheating rule).
2. Post what you are working on in #introductions.
3. Set today’s goals in #daily-goals.
4. Stuck? Ask in the subject channel and show what you have tried.
Need to focus? Join a Silent Focus room, camera optional, mic off.- Use Onboarding to ask for study level and subjects, and add Session Ping as an opt-in.
- Ask two or three members per subject to be tutors before you open the server publicly.
- Set a recurring weekly group study session and announce it in #announcements.
- Pin a question template in each subject channel: topic, what you tried, where you are stuck.
Moderation and AutoMod
Discord AutoMod rules to turn on
- Block keywords for paid essay services ("write your essay", "do your assignment", "homework help paid").
- Block links in subject channels for new members if spam becomes a problem; allow them in #resource-requests.
- Turn on the commonly flagged words filter: members include under-18 students.
- Block mention spam at 4 unique mentions.
How to moderate it
- Remove posted live exam answers immediately and time out the poster; it protects members from academic misconduct claims.
- Thank tutors publicly. Recognition is what keeps volunteer helpers answering.
- During exam season, run daily group sessions and raise slowmode in busy subject channels.
- Kick or move people who talk in silent focus rooms after one reminder.
Recommended server settings
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Verification level | Low or Medium | Students join from class links; keep friction low but block brand new accounts. |
| Explicit media filter | Filter for all members | Many members are school students. |
| Default notifications | Only @mentions | Busy subject channels would otherwise send constant notifications. |
| Onboarding | On, asking for level and subjects | Lets tutors see who they are helping and members hide subjects they do not take. |
Suggested bots
- Discrofy: Builds this layout and manages AutoMod and moderation from a dashboard.
- A Pomodoro or study timer bot: Runs focus and break timers in the Pomodoro Room.
- A LaTeX bot: Renders maths formulas in #maths and #science, if your members need it.
Build it in about a minute
Discrofy creates every category, channel, role and permission above in your server, then posts the rules. It only adds, so existing channels are kept, and you can undo the build from your dashboard. Your first build each month is free.
Frequently asked questions
How do silent focus rooms work?+
They are normal voice channels with a rule that microphones stay muted. Members join with a camera or screen share on and study alongside each other. Moderators move or remove anyone who talks.
Can I add or remove subjects?+
Yes. Customise the template in the generator first, or build it and rename or delete subject channels in Discord. Keep the slowmode on any new subject channels.
Is it OK to help with homework?+
Explaining concepts and checking someone’s working is fine. Doing graded work for someone or sharing live exam answers is cheating, and the rules say so clearly.
Does this work for a single class?+
Yes. For a class, rename the subject channels to modules or weeks and remove the level roles.
